Conservatives have an attitude that is something like this: "I earned my money and therefore it is mine." The government should take as little as possible to maintain basic services; for example, national security. Keeping tax rates low allows people to keep and therefore spend more money which, in turn, helps keep up the level of funds needed to maintain a government.
